Jon and Christy - Wycliffe Missionaries |
In January of 2000, our congregation commissioned one of our own members as a Literacy Specialist with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Christy's initial assignment was in the Philippines, working with the Matigsalug People group in a very remote village of Sinuda, located on the southern island of Mindanao.
Wycliffe Bible Translators is one of the most respected Bible translation organizations in the entire world, and is committed to getting the Bible translated into every language. Currently, there are some 4,528 languages with no translation or adequate Bible. In addition, 801 language groups have only the New Testament, while Bible translation work continues in another 1,053 language groups. Finally, only 319 language groups have the entire Bible translated in their own tongue. In the summer of 2001, Christy married Jon who is also associated with Wycliffe. Their primary assignment is the surveying and the collection of data on local dialects, work which will eventually provide still one more Bible translated into the indigenous language of a very remote people. Jon and Christy’s partnership members include those who are willing to pray for them daily, as well as those who are willing to make a financial contribution to their ministry.
